Gunflint Ranger District
This Morgan Lake Trail also doubles as the portage from the BWCA Entry Point 45 parking lot to Morgan Lake. It makes for a nice, roughly one hour roundtrip hike. It's fairly strenuous if you are using it as a portage. The trail/portage is lightly traveled. The Morgan Lake entry point only allows one overnight paddling permit per day.
The parking lot at the trailhead only holds three cars. You can also park along the shoulder of the road.

Start of the trail. Don't forget to fill out a BWCA day permit which are located in the box hanging on the left side of the bulletin board.
This trail is just over one mile in length. You enter the BWCA maybe 80 rods before reaching the lake. There are a few modest hills to get your heart rate up. An easy creek crossing. Several mud holes. Nice view of a pond along the way.
View of Morgan Lake from the end of the trail.
Hiking the Morgan Lake Trail (Morgan Lake to the Trailhead)
This is the start of the trail at Morgan Lake.
This pond provides the centerpiece of a pleasant overlook along the trail (assuming the skeeters will leave you alone long enough to enjoy it). Good place to take a break.
A few small climbs and decents. There is a single creek crossing, but should be minor obstacle unless there has been a ton of rain. Maybe three or four muddy areas along the trail. The bigger squishy spots have boardwalks over them. There is an overlook of an unnamed pond along the way. Best views of this pond would be early spring or in the fall when the leaves don't obscure the view as much.
The usual bulletin board.
The trail ends at this small parking lot on the side of this road known as the Lima Grade. This is the BWCA Entry Point 45 parking lot.
