The campsite was hit pretty hard by recent windstorms. The canoe landing is fairly good. The fire grate is in a clearing next to the lake. Somewhat limited shade here. The campsite sports three tent pads, all a little on the rough side. The latrine is well back in the woods. From the 4:00 mark to the 5:00 mark in this video you are actually following the South Lake Trail. We follow it back into the woods to the point where it begins the steep climb up the ridge. At the top of the ridge, the South Lake Trail intersects with the Border Route Trail. Hikers from both of these trails commonly use this campsite in addition to canoeists.
Canoe landing.
View of the seating area with back to the lake.
A look at the seating area looking towards the lake.
Probably the best tent pad at this campsite. Grassy from lack of use probably.
This tent pad is right next to the fire grate and fairly close to the water. It's a small spot.
These old timer is well back in the woods.
Looking west down the south shoreline of South Lake.
View towards the northeast. The portage to Rat Lake is just on the otherside of that point. BWCA Campsite 2064 is connected to that portage.
