Likely the most sought after campsite on the lake. It's on the island in the north/northwest part of the lake. Plenty of spots for landing your canoes. Also plenty of shoreline access around the western point of the island. The fire grate is set up near a large glacial erratic. The huge rock serves as a back rest and a wind and sun blocker. There are fine views of the lake in several directions. There are at least a half dozen tent pads, many of them very spacious. This campsite can easy accomodate a small army (although nine is the maximum allowed in the BWCA at a campsite at one time). The restroom is a a sloped trail. That trail provides some excellent views of the surrounding lake and distant vistas from its raised vantage point. Should be a great campsite for stargazing.
Park the boat on this massive slab of rock that slopes up to near the fire grate.
A look at the "ramp".
Fire grate. The big rock on the left is probably a glacial erratic, a large rock that is pushed along and carried by a glacier. When the glacier melts out from under it, the boulder is left there, even though it may look out of place. Especially if you see one of these out in the middle of a flat field.
The rock face acts as a backrest, a wind block and a sunscreen.
Another view of the kitchen.
There are six of these tent pads (at least). The only issue you should have is figuring out which is best for your tent setup.
Another tent pad..
And another.
Tent pad anyone?
Yep.
Last one.
View from the latrine trail which is elevated well above the lake.
The view walking up the latrine trail is better than the view of the latrine.
