Campsite on the Isabella River (and along Powwow Trail) (#1927)
This campsite is accessible to both canoeists traveling along the Isabella River and to hikers using the Powwow Trail. Use caution when camping in burned areas. Do not place tent near tree skeletons (burned trees) or under leaning trees.

Walk around this campsite. The site is on the south side of the river, just south of the bridge crossing. It can be used by paddlers and hikers of the Powwow Trail. There are two tent pads, a good fire pit and the pleasant sound of rushing water. If canoeing, you get to this site by taking the portage on the other side of the river, then crossing the secondary channel and then the channel with the bridge crossing (May 12, 2023).
This video begins at the 42 rod portage between Lake Isabella and the Isabella River. From the portage, follow the Powwow Trail southward across both channels of the Isabella River until reaching the campsite. Once at the campsite take a look around the place. Once you've seen the campsite, walk back to the portage (July 25, 2021). Compare this to the more recent video shown above.
The canoe landing for this campsite is actually from either end of the 42 rod portage that runs along the north side of the Isabella River. You can either pull out on the Isabella Lake end (left) or the Isabella River end of the portage (right). This will of course depend on which direction you are coming from (July 25, 2021).
From the portage landing (either end), head down the portage until you come to the where the portage intersects the Powwow Trail. Turn in the direction of the river (south) and in a few seconds of walking you will come to the first crossing of the Isabella River. The river is divided into two channels here. This is the north channel. There is both a simple log bridge (assuming it hasn't been washed away) and a stepping stone crossing here (stepping stones not visible, as you are standing on them) (July 25, 2021).
Once over the north channel, continue south down the Powwow Trail. In a few more seconds, you come to this bridge over the south channel of the Isabella River. This channel usually has more water in it than the north channel (July 25, 2021).
A few more steps past the bridge, on your right, is the entrance to the campsite (July 25, 2021).
The seating around the cooking area is in good repair (May 12, 2023).
