The most interesting thing about this campsite is that it is directly connected to the Pine Portage (portage between Clove Lake and the Pine River) via a short trail. So don't be totally surprised if someone wanders into your campsite. The portage makes for a short hiking trail if you need to stretch the legs. Of the three campsites on Clove Lake this one will probably be considered the least desirable by paddling groups. Pretty good canoe landing options and fair shoreline access. Kitchen area is back from the shore a bit and trees block the view of the lake somewhat from this location. There are four tent pads. Two are near the fire grate and two are back in the woods along the trail that leads over to the Pine Portage. New fangled latrine up a mild incline.
One of several places you can land your canoe along the shoreline at this campsite.
Kitchen setup looked OK.
Another view of the kitchen. The large slab of rock to the left is good for laying out gear.
View towards the lake from the seating area. Somewhat obstructed view of Clove Lake. Good wind protection. Wind can be strong at this location since it is on the east side of the lake and the prevailing wind is from the west.
This was the largest tent pad.
Another tent pad, but smaller.
You'll find this tent pad along the short trail that leads over to the Pine Portage.
This is another tent pad along the short trail that connects the campsite to the Pine Portage.
Modern technology.
View north from the campsite.
This is looking toward the west/southwest. BWCA Campsite 439 visible on the far right of the view on that rocky area. Mouth of Larch Creek is just to the right of center.
