The fire pit for this campsite isn't visible from the lake. From the above average canoe landing, hike up the trail to the campsite. There is a large field here that was probably the location of a logging camp or perhaps a basecamp for one of the resorts that used to operate on Brule Lake (haven't been able to find any history of this particular campsite location). Logging operations took place around Brule Lake until the 1950's. Resorts were on this lake until at least the late 1970's. Given the lack of reforestation at this spot, it must have been occupied up until fairly recent times. There is an old can dump visible along the trail leading to the latrine.
The landing is in a semi-swampy spot at the bottom of a fairly long, grassy trail that leads up to the actual campsite. The landing here is spacious and quite satisfactory.
The kitchen is rather barren. Given how overgrown the area is, it is apparent this campsite is seldom used.
Another view of the fire pit.
The only tent pad at this campsite is under this pine tree up against these rocks. It is a level spot. You'll find it pretty close to the fire pit.
A prickly rose flower (upper left) rises above a garden of bunchberry plants.
The big forest green commode.
Trail runs out into this large field. Likely the location of several buildings or other structures in the fairly recent past. The field is overgrown with fox-and-cubs plants that are in bloom (July).
