Campsite is located right at the outlet of the Royal River with the pleasant sound of flowing water. Canoe landing is nice enough. A portage 2 rod portage from the lake to the river goes through the edge of the campsite. This is not a heavily traveled route though, so shouldn't be too much traffic. The campsite has two tent pads. The fire grate is setup in a great location. Good views of John Lake with lots of shore access.
Good landing areas at this campsite, albeit somewhat rocky.
Nice open area around the fire grate. The location is well protected from wind and sun.
Another view of the kitchen. Pleasant lake views. Lots of room to spread out.
One of this campsites two tent pads.
The other tent pad. Both tent pads at this campsite are fairly large.
New fangled "Johnnie" on John Lake.
Pileated woodpecker perched on a cedar tree (just left of center).
Close up of the woodpecker. This is a large species common to the Superior National Forest/BWCA.
View of the outlet of the Royal River. Canoe groups will portage around that on this side of the river, so you may get an occasional visitor if you camp here. The other side of the river is much harder to walk.
View to the west/northwest. You can see most of John Lake in this image.
