Hag Creek

Hag Creek provides a possible route into Hag Lake. This would be a substantially longer way to take to reach Hag Lake, but probably the most interesting as it involves travel along a creek rather than bushwhacking through dense forest. This creeks mouth is located on the southernmost tip of Ge-be-on-a-quet Lake. The creek becomes less and less navigable as one travels upstream farther away from Ge-be-on-a-quet Lake.
This area of the BWCA has escaped fire for a long time. The most recent fire was in 1755. That fire is known as the Big Moose, Oyster and Lac La Croix complex. Another fire affected the area in 1681.
Paddling Hag Creek
Like most small creeks, you would want to plan to travel this one in the spring for the best water levels. This route will be hard enough even with good water. While this route would be difficult to say the least, it will take you deep into a very remote area of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. This creek probably hasn't been traveled end to end by more than a handful of paddlers, so many may experience a real feeling of exploration here.
