Portaging Direction: From Edith Lake to West Round Lake

Edith Lake to West Round Lake Portage 1
A delightful portage landing gets you started. This is a well trodden path.

A long wooden board walkway covers much of the distance between the two lakes. It is often dry enough to just walk on the ground. The entire length of the portage is mostly flat. An easy portage in general (June 2020).

The portage as it was several years before (October 2015).

Edith Lake to West Round Lake Portage 2
A memorable feature of this portage is the string of boards that makes a relatively long elevated walkway over some squishy sections of the trail.

Edith Lake to West Round Lake Portage 3
West Round Lake is small but easily windblown. The burned forest does little to cut the breeze.

Now that you've made it over the portage, visit: WEST ROUND LAKE

Edith Lake to West Round Lake Portage 4
This is the West Round Lake pullout. The portage of 47 rods to Edith Lake leads away into the forest. Landing is plenty smooth (October 2015).

Same image as that shown above, but the view is from just slightly offshore. Notice how much has changed in the intervening time period (June 2020).

Edith Lake to West Round Lake Portage 5
Depending on how wet it has been, you made need to walk on these board walkways. The length of the board bridge is at least 20 rods. The whole portage is 47 rods. See how far you can make it without falling off while walking as fast as you can...

Portage from West Round Lake to Edith Lake. This is a 47 rod portage. As you can see, a good portion of this portage involves crossing soggy sections along a plank walkway. The portage is remarkable in its flatness (June 2020).
Earlier video footage of the same portage (October 2015).

Non-panoramic version of the image shown below. Compare and contrast the two views, as much has changed (June 2020).

Edith Lake to West Round Lake Portage 6
A panoramic view of Edith Lake looking toward the west from the end of the West Round Lake portage. Damage from the 2006 Cavity Lake Fire is evident on the right shoreline and in the distance (October 2015).

Now that you've made it over the portage, visit: EDITH LAKE
